SEMO REDI Announces New CEO to Lead Regional Economic Development Efforts

Cape Girardeau, MO – August 7, 2024 – Southeast Missouri Regional Economic Development, Inc. (SEMO REDI) is excited to announce the appointment of Shad Burner as its new Chief Executive Officer. Burner will lead SEMO REDI’s revitalized mission to drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life in Southeast Missouri.

Burner has an extensive background in economic development, including nearly five years with the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED), where he served on the department leadership team. He was responsible for creating the Federal Initiatives division where he built and managed a team of 20 employees and oversaw a budget of approximately $650M. During his tenure at DED and through his previous role as a Vice President of Business Development at the Cape Chamber, Burner has significant experience helping new and existing companies grow in southeast Missouri.

A native of the region, Burner has lived in Cape Girardeau for more than 20 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Southeast Missouri State University. He is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) through the International Economic Development Council and served on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Economic Development Council for approximately 10 years. He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education program and was appointed by Governor Mike Parson to serve as the Missouri Designee to the Delta Regional Authority.

The six-month search process was led by a committee comprised of community and business leaders throughout the region. The committee engaged Waverly Consultants to conduct a nationwide search. After interviews with multiple candidates, Burner was identified to lead the organization into the future. He assumed the role of CEO on August 1, 2024.
